Grazing examples

Example grazing system

The grazing examples are designed to help you set up grazing and herd management in your simulation (see also How to...). These simulations are provided in the CLEM_example_grazing simulation file. You can use these example descriptions as a walk-through tutorial for setting up and exploring the outcomes of your own simulation.

Values used in examples are purely fictitious and are only intended as representative values in the example. Some figures may not be realistic.

Manage ruminants activity

An example simulation containing examples of many of the tasks performed in the Manage ruminants activity is provided in the CLEM_Sensibility_HerdManagement.apsimx simulation file. this provides guides for how to set up functionality as well as a sensibility test of the activities actions.

  • Increase herd at start shows how the herd can be increased from the initial cohorts to the minimum number of breeders and associated sires at the start of the simulation
  • Reduce herd at start shows how the herd can be reduced to the maximum number of breeders and associated sires at the start of the simulation
  • Grow out males performs the growing out management of young males after weaning until they are sold when achieving selling age or weight
  • Increase breeders allows within herd breeder replacement as well as purchases up until minimum number of breeders kept and then only herd replacement until managed at the maximum number of breeders kept
  • Grow out females manages young weaned females in the grow out herd along with the males until the female selling age or weight is achieved and they are sold
  • Sell Breeder rules shows how to specify custom rules to identify individuals to be used in selling to reduce numbers when excess breeders are present.
